BEHAVIOR

Strengths: Reliable, curious, and witty. If a job needs to be done, Alicen and be counted on to do it quickly and correctly. She also enjoys learning about new things and can be found just watching the world go by when traveling to a new place. She can also throw out smart remarks, sometimes surprising people who forgot she was even in the conversation in the first place.

Weaknesses: Aloof, blunt, and complacent. Alicen is a hard person to get to know because she keeps to herself and does not often engage in small talk. She isn’t rude or necessarily unfriendly, but don’t count on her to start a conversation. This has also resulted in her having very few people she is close to outside of her family. And be careful when asking her for her honest opinion, she won’t sugarcoat even maybe when she should be more delicate. It is also hard to get her to make changes if everything is mostly fine for her.

Motivation: Despite her aloof nature, she cares deeply for her family and will do anything for them. This expands to anyone who she is close to her, though those are few and far between. She deeply cares for Ryner too and won’t let anything harm him.

Personality: Alicen is a woman who general keeps to herself and focuses on accomplishing what tasks are given to her. She’s not much of a conversationalist, but she’s usually willing to lend a listening ear as long as she’s not expected to really answer and does get along with others on a casual level. She is also willing to tell people the truth up-front, though probably without too much thought about how it sounds. She does care deeply for those she is close to and they probably see more of her wittiness than most other people.

Ryner: Honestly, he is a brat. He is vain, easily jealous, and takes very little responsibility for his own actions. Fortunately, his actions are relatively mild and more annoying than dangerous or malicious with Alicen’s brother being his favorite and primary victim. But he does have his good points. He is loyal to Alicen and by extension her family, even if he refuses to admit it. He can also be extremely empathetic when it’s least expected. He also has a sense of humor, though not as dry as Alicen’s.

History:

Early years: Alicen and her twin brother, Jack, were born in Sunsalt Lake to their parents, Meryl, a tailor, and Grantham, a humble merchant who mostly dealt with clothing materials like fabric. Meryl would do most of her work from their home, occasionally going to a client’s house to do something there, while Grantham would go to the market and run his stall before returning home when the market closed. Once the twins were old enough, Grantham would take them with him to the market once a week to give their mother a day off. Jack would play with some of the other kids or talk to customers while Alicen was satisfied just sitting in the stall, occasionally helping her father with something. The only customers she ever talked to were those far from off places who she would bombard with questions about where they were from or what they were wearing. Yet she never expressed a desire herself to go to those places. Eventually, she went with her father quite frequently while Jack stayed at home. While she didn’t have the customer skills her father had, she found her place in running small errands for him and eventually for other vendors too. This became what she was known for and when she was old enough, her father assisted her in running her own courier service.

Meeting Ryner: Alicen was eighteen, a little older than most of the participants when she finally attended the bonding festival. She had been ready and willing for a while, but she had waited for Jack as they had promised to do it together. Then it turned out that Jack, who had gotten interested in apothecary work, decided against bonding with a dragon, for a while at least. She almost did too, but with much encouragement from Jack and her parents, chose to attend. She eventually ended up with an egg that had a striking silver color to it. But as she held it and caressed it, it felt right and any sadness she felt from Jack choosing a different path fled.

She journeyed to the Mountain End and placed the egg in the lava. Out came a feathered baby dragon with silvery feathers and an adorable face. She decided to call him Ryner.

Currently, Alicen keeps busy with her courier job, which now has her going to places beyond Sunsalt Lake with Ryner by her side. She is satisfied with her lot in life, but things have a way of being shaken up, especially with some of the rumors she’s heard. But they’re just rumors, right?
